About the project "Geeker"

The Geeker.ru blog was created in August 2008, in the era of Web 2.0 and RSS technology development.

Statistics

It is difficult to calculate everything as accurately as possible. Since 2018, there have been:

  • More than 200 articles have been written,
  • Browse over 800 apps,
  • 0 advertising articles,
  • 2500 websites tested (according to LastPass password manager).

History in screenshots

I find it hard to believe, but the site is already 15 years old.

There were several stages of the site's development. From 2008 to 2011, news about startups, gadgets, and Internet services were published.

In 2011, the site changed not only its design, but also its concept – now it was a blog about Internet services.

Then there was a design change and reviews of programs for Windows appeared.

In the summer of 2018, the site began publishing articles mainly with reviews of mobile applications, sometimes reviews of web services. After that, the site did not change its design and concept.

What do we do?

There are over 7 million apps in the App Store and Google Play Store, and finding the right one is extremely difficult. That's where we come to the rescue! When we write an article, we select only the best apps. They must have at least 4 stars and a large number of positive reviews. An article will not be published unless it has been reviewed by at least two of our experienced editors.

We try to avoid phrases like "and many other features" and instead, if possible, talk about these additional features. After reading the article, the user should have no questions about which application to choose.

Why should I trust you?

Our algorithm, combined with machine learning, allows us to understand what each app can do, why users love or hate it, by analyzing user reviews, downloads, and ratings.

Our editorial team reviews each app and decides whether it should be included in the review. The editorial team is independent: we make decisions based on our data, not on requests from developers or advertisers.

We really do download all the apps from Google Play and test them. We take over 1,000 screenshots of apps per month to write ~8 articles. Below are the statistics from GlassWire on the amount of data downloaded from Google Play. It comes out to about 4GB per month. And it should be taken into account that these are apps, not games (you understand the difference, right?). Yes, we really do install a lot of apps.

And in this video you can see what the "Gallery" looks like on the phone of a person who tests review apps on Giker (data for a month).

This is only part of the screenshots. Because after the article is published, most of them are deleted. In fact, there were even more.

A like this (30 minute video) the selection process for review candidates is underway. 30 applications were installed, after which a quick assessment of the applications' potential took place (good and bad ones are immediately visible).
