Believe it or not, there are quite a few apps for identifying plants and flowers. I'm going to tell you about the best ones. Or rather, the ones that I consider the best for subjective reasons. Some of them are very similar in function, others are a little more unique. But every single one of them is really good.
They will not only help you find out what a particular flower or plant is called, but also tell you about it. In addition, I will tell you about an application for identifying insects, which will also be of great service to gardeners. If you are interested, then read on.
PictureThis
PictureThis — is a great app with powerful AI (artificial intelligence). PictureThis can almost instantly recognize a plant, flower or weed, you just need to take a photo of it. Although you can also manually search the database. According to the developers, PictureThis identifies more than 400 thousand world plant species with an accuracy of 98%. The company also claims that 80 researchers in the field of botany and horticulture participated in the development over 5 years to compile this very knowledge base.
Each representative of the flora is provided with a detailed description, as well as information on watering, fertilizing, lifespan, flowering time, diseases and pests. To diagnose the disease, simply photograph the affected parts from different angles (3 photos are required).
There are also additional functions: identification of weeds, danger for pets, shows which plants are poisonous for cats and dogs, there is recognition of trees, insects and even birds.
Owners of a premium subscription, which costs 2,599 rubles per year, can receive individual advice from an expert.
LeafSnap
LeafSnap — one of the best (I put it in second place) applications for identifying plants and flowers. Harmoniously combines beautiful design and functionality. Just take a photo of a specific flower, and LeafSnap will provide you with a fair amount of information about it after finding it in its database. If you want, you can dig into this database yourself.
For maximum recognition accuracy, follow the app's tips:
- If the plant is too large, just remember to include the leaves or flowers of the plant.
- Don't get too close, just make sure the leaves or flowers are clean and intact.
- Focus the plant in the center of the frame, avoid dark or blurry images.
- Don't photograph several species at once.
The developers claim that their brainchild can accurately recognize 90 percent of all known flora. If you add a plant to your collection, the application will start sending notifications about its care and watering.
PlantNet
PlantNet relies on human experts rather than artificial intelligence. With it, you will begin to better understand the surrounding vegetation. For each plant, the application shows the family, genus, species, common name and a world map indicating the places where the plant was most often searched for. At the moment, PlantNet recognizes about 20,000 species, and the database is constantly expanding. Considering that there are 360,000 species on the planet, there is room to grow. Although this can be said about almost all similar applications.
PlantNet can divide flora by genus or family, but the multi-identification feature allows you to search for a photographed plant in the entire application database, not just in the selected section. Externally, everything is quite nice. The vast majority of menu items are pinned to the bottom panel, regardless of what screen you are on. And PlantNet is free.
NatureID
Developers NatureID They did a great job — everything works perfectly. Here you can take a photo of a plant and the application will start searching for it in its database, and when it finds it, it will give you a lot of pictures and a detailed description. The necessary options can be added to the collection. With the help of notifications, NatureID will also help you care for your flowers, so you will not forget to water and feed them on time. In addition, there is a plant disease identifier, which will come in handy in case of trouble.
There is a "Journal" where you can add photos and make notes to remember every detail and track the history of actions taken. For example, when the plant was sick, what was done to cure it, etc. Unfortunately, all the functionality is in English.
Agrobase
Agrobase — a great tool for farmers and agronomists. There is a ton of information on agronomy and a vast database of pests, weeds and diseases. And also – data on all registered pesticides, insecticides and herbicides, you only need to specify the country correctly. Agrobase will help you recognize diseases, insects and pests, and protect your crops.
The database is constantly updated, so you will always be up to date. Weeds, pests, insects or diseases can be found by searching by their common and Latin names, category or crop. Agrobase has a pretty nice design, the database is conveniently compiled and sorted by category, so it is easy to navigate.
FlowerChecker+
FlowerChecker+ is a bit different from all other AI-based apps. Here you can also take a photo of a plant/flower to recognize it. But the point is that, unlike the analogs mentioned above, FlowerChecker+ will send the photo to human experts. Usually, it takes them from a few minutes to a few hours to answer, depending on the time of day and the complexity of the question.
The company claims to find a solution in over 95% cases on average. Basically, the team can help you solve any plant-related questions, whether you just want to broaden your horizons or find out what your plant is sick with and how to help it. Note that the app costs 69 rubles. Just keep in mind that one payment gives you the opportunity to make three consultations. If you need more, you will have to pay again.
Plantix
If you want to grow something yourself, Plantix will be very useful to you. The main goal of the application is to help you get a healthy harvest. Here you will find information on 30 main crops and more than 400 of their damages. All you need to do is take a photo of the diseased crop, and then - the wonders of high technology. In general, this is a kind of doctor for your crops.
The content is translated into 18 languages, which is rare. Plantix also has a large farming community with over 500 experts. You can ask any questions. In addition, the app contains tips on plant growing and agronomic weather forecast.
Insect Identifier
Insect Identifier identifies insects and thus helps to find out which of them harm plants and which do not. Just take a photo of the pest, and the application will find mountains of information about each bug, as well as many of its photos.
The developers note that they take data for their machine learning algorithm only from reputable professionals. The company also notes that the database is constantly updated with new information. Insect Identifier also allows you to keep a diary of caught insects. However, you will have to pay 399 rubles for the application.
