Most users rely on recommendations from music streaming services. If you use an app that streams audio, you are unlikely to come across music that does not suit your taste. However, streaming services are far from the only search options.
In my opinion, if you don't want to search for new genres, but prefer to trust the service's recommendations, Spotify or Apple Music functionality will be enough for your search. Otherwise, I recommend checking out the list of services provided. They are really worth it!
Gnoosic
If you like listening to pop rock bands like Plain White T's, Simple Plan, Something Corporate, etc. and want to find music of that kind, this is the tool for you! I entered my three favorite bands: izzamuzzic, ZHU, and Zarrue, and it immediately asked me about Nbsplv, whose tracks I really like. I listen to them along with the top three. The service is decent.
Gnoosic uses a self-learning system. The service offers to rate different music tracks from the positions of “I like it”, “I don’t like it” or “I don’t know”. Based on your answers, Gnoosic tries to select recommendations, increasingly adapting to your taste.
Every Noise
If the applications and services described above provide recommendations by group, composition or genre, then Every Noise offers a search by all three parameters. This site is a great attempt to display little-known music in the form of a music map.
For example, if you like Radiohead and want to find similar music, just type the band's name in the search bar at the top of the screen. The service will give you a list of genres that Radiohead works in. Click on any of them and get dozens of artists working in the same genre. Click on any musician or band and you will listen to a 30-second excerpt from the song. What sets the service apart from its peers is that each genre has its own playlists for Spotify, which can be accessed with one click.
Spot Alike
Spot Alike — is a web service from Last.fm, which generates playlists for Spotify with one click of a button. All you need to do is enter the name of your favorite track in the text field and select a song in the pop-up window. In a few seconds, the service will give you a ready-made playlist for Spotify. You can also log in to Spotify and immediately see the corresponding playlist in the application.
For example, if you type Adele into the text field and press enter, the service will show a list of tracks similar to the British singer's work. Now you can add this playlist to Spotify with one click. You can select playlists by both artist and song title.
Bandcamp
Bandcamp is a little-known service that is primarily used by musicians to promote their songs. The app has a feed that showcases songs and albums from different bands and artists in the genres you love. It’s a great way to discover new music that suits your taste.
Bandcamp Weekly features hand-curated playlists of tracks each week, broken down by genre. The only downside to the app is that you have to buy the music. And since most users prefer to listen to it for free, Bandcamp may not be the best option for many.
