The Internet is filled with all sorts of services for working with text. You have several interesting options to choose from. The best solution depends on what functions you want to get. They may not have the advanced options present in computer programs, but they do their main task well.

Next time you need to draft a simple text, try one of these free editors. They come with formatting and collaboration tools that will make your life easier, without having to download additional programs.

Word processing is traditionally associated with Microsoft Word. That's why the online editor Word Online deservedly took the top spot on the list. To start using it, all you need is a free Microsoft account.

The interface is familiar to those who have already used the desktop version of Microsoft Office. Word Online is a simplified version of the PC application, so the number of functions in it is reduced, although the main features are preserved. You can only save files in DOCX format. But you can view and edit documents in other MS Office formats.

You can choose the font, its size and color. Align the text you have already typed to the edges or center. Set the line spacing or a special indent. If necessary, add headers and footers or number pages. There is a review tab where you can check spelling or view document statistics by the number of words and characters.

Google Docs

Google Docs can safely be called a universal tool: it is available to everyone and works everywhere. The basic functions needed to create and edit documents are not all that Google Docs gives you.

For example, you can insert an image from the Internet by simply specifying its URL or find it through the built-in search in Goolge Images without going to other sites. Among the standard functions are spell checking, inserting tables and diagrams.

You can use a variety of templates, return to older versions of files, share materials with others, make a document available for reading or editing via a link. As part of collaboration, it is possible for several users to edit a file in real time. And thanks to autosave, you don’t have to worry about saving files manually.

Google Docs has several advantages over Word Online: a more intuitive interface, improved collaboration tools, free voice typing that supports Russian.

Zoho Writer

Zoho allows you to save files to cloud storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive.

OnlyOffice Document Editor
