A habit is like a wall under construction. Every day we put a new brick in it. Sometimes it can be quite difficult to work on building a wall: there is zero motivation, you constantly forget when it is time to start working. In such cases, special applications for reinforcing useful skills will help. There are simply a huge number of them on the Play Market and App Store, and you will be tired of looking for the one among them three times. Therefore, we decided to save your energy, which should go to personal development, and not to searching.
Each study gives different time frames for how long it takes to form a new habit, but it’s generally accepted that it takes about 66 days. We’ve put together a list of the best habit and skill trackers to help you with this difficult task. They’ll also make sure you don’t skip classes. So let’s break down each app in detail.
Loop
Loop — is an open-source app for tracking your habit progress. Loop is much simpler than other habit tracking apps, thanks to its lightweight interface and clearer working technique. The app looks like a calendar, where you can add habits and choose when to work on them. When adding a goal, you can choose its name, color, tracking preferences, repeat days, and reminders. If necessary, you can edit these settings at any time.
Once you create a habit, it will be added to the main screen of the program. It will also show basic information about it for the last five days. From here, you can easily control everything related to your tasks by simply selecting the desired date. Clicking on a goal on the main screen will lead to more detailed data: skill strength, habit history, best results and frequency of the habit.
Version 1.8 introduces a new histogram that shows the number of repetitions performed each week, month, or year. Now, performing habits on irregular workdays no longer disrupts the task's progress. It's important to note that Loop does not have the ability to register an account for subsequent data synchronization, but you can download all the data in a CSV file and upload it back if necessary.
HabitBull
HabitBull — is one of the most popular programs for tracking daily activities. The application offers to create a habit and helps to control the work on its consolidation. You can choose from existing options or create your own habit. Then you give it a name, choose a color, add a description and set a date for completing work on it.
Once you create a habit, such as a health habit, the app will give you three options to track it. You’ll have the option to monitor the habit by simply pressing “Yes” or “No,” adding a number, or updating information from another app, such as Google Fit if you’re aiming to take 10,000 steps daily. HabitBull shows all habits in a list with completion percentage, daily progress, entered values, motivational quotes, and more.
HabitBull allows you to share your progress with other users - it's like a social network. Moreover, you can add notes and reminders for your tasks. You can also create a new account or log in via Google to save all the information you add to the cloud.
Habitica
Application Habitica is perhaps the most original in our review. This is not a banal calendar or just a list of habits and an application for them, but a whole game, the main character of which is you. Habitica is designed as an RPG game, the character of which you constantly improve and pump up. With the help of this application, you will rethink the formation of habits.
Previously, it seemed difficult to you, but today you feel like you are playing a fun and exciting game. Indeed, if you perceive everything in this way, creating a new habit will go without any stress. It is important to simply immerse yourself in the world of your RPG, understand your character and start leveling it up. You also set your own goals. It does not necessarily have to be to overthrow a dragon. Choose something more mundane, because this will not make you more bored playing. On the contrary, you will finally feel how interesting life around us is.
Repeat Habit
Repeat Habit offers easy tracking of activities and tasks aimed at strengthening new habits. A habit in this app is created in literally one step. Just click on the plus icon in the main menu and fill in the necessary data. You can add a color to your new goal, select the days of repetition, set and add reminders, up to three per week. The created task remains in the main menu, which shows statistics for the last five days. Repeat Habit has voice reminders and a small collection of design themes.
Grow
Grow — is one of the simplest and most straightforward Android apps that allows you to track and control the development of your habits. It has a very simple design that focuses on the habit without any fanfare or bells and whistles. The menu contains a list of all active goals along with a plus icon, by clicking on which you can add a new habit to your arsenal, specifying its start date, end goal and set a reminder. Once you add a new goal, you can track it without being distracted by anything else.
With its simple design, Grow seems to suggest that it is worth saving the time we spend on all sorts of household trifles. And the time saved should be spent on something truly useful. If you are currently looking for an app to track the development of your habits, you will like Grow at least because it will not let you deceive yourself. It has a bunch of restrictions for certain actions so that you cannot wind up habits. This is a good option for a person who is honest with himself.
Day by Day
Last but not least, this is the app on our list. Day by Day. Instead of relying on weekly results, this app is focused on daily activities and measuring progress daily. You can create a new habit by simply tapping the plus icon in the main menu. You can then add all the necessary information, choose a color and an icon for the habit tab. Once you have added a habit, you can set goals for yourself while working on it.
You can track your habits through the start menu, which shows the chronology of your activities, achievements, fulfilled obligations, etc. From here, you can set the start and end dates for working on your habit - Day by Day will make sure that you don't shirk your work.
Yes, there will certainly be benefits from this, but you will only see them after 21 days or a couple of months. Therefore, in the application, you will be able to reward yourself, and accordingly, get more pleasure from working on strengthening habits. A big plus of this application is the improved system of rewards for efforts - you can independently specify a reward for yourself for the work done.
All added information can be downloaded as a ZIP file. Unfortunately, the free version of the app allows you to add only two habits. The paid version removes this unreasonable limitation.
