Apple's AirPods were once heavily hyped around the world, with some seeing a wireless future that would inevitably see the end of the headphone jack. Although they were designed for the iPhone, they will also work on a variety of Android smartphones.

You can connect airpods on android and have access to most of the features like checking the battery level, controlling song playback, answering calls, activating Google Assistant, etc. In this article, we will look at the best Android apps that are compatible with AirPods and provide users with most of the features.

AirBattery

The first thing that comes to mind is the app AirBattery, developed by George Friedrich. This is a utility for Apple's AirPods that shows you the battery level of both earbuds. AirBattery also allows you to automatically detect whether the earbuds are in your ears to play music. Unfortunately, this feature only works for a limited list of apps, such as Netflix, YouTube, and Google Play Music.

AirBattery also has a paid version that extends the functionality of the basic version. It will display a notification on the home screen with all the information about the earbuds, so that you can more easily monitor them. If you want to know the status of the case, you must put one earbud in it.

Devices from Beats by Dre, BeatsX and other manufacturers are also supported.

PodsControl

podscontrol

PodsControl — This is probably the most beautiful app you can find in this review. The interface looks exceptionally neat and is designed to provide only the most essential features. The main menu is divided into four sections. One of the front sections displays the name of the device and connection information. After that, there is a section displaying the battery level of the AirPods and their case.

There you can also find the button to turn on the monitoring system. It can also be turned off to save battery power. In it, we can set the press assignments with customized options for double pressing. However, it does not allow you to customize the touches for each of the headphones.

What we like most about PodsControl is how easy it is to use. When you first launch it, you will be taken to a page where you must select AirPods from the list of Bluetooth devices available for connection. Once connected, it will immediately open to the main screen of the application.

Luckily, PodsControl does not have a paid version. All features are already available in the basic version.

Assistant Trigger

assistant trigger

Assistant Trigger by DotArrow Inc is an Android utility that supports the second-generation AirPods. It shows the charge percentage of the earbuds and the case itself, including as a notification on the home screen. Assistant Trigger can also detect when the earbuds are in your ears and start playing media.

Double-tapping the notification opens the Assistant Trigger app, while single-tapping pauses or starts the music. The notification shows the battery level with small icons that look very cute. The battery level is not always accurate and is shown with an error of 10%. This is not the fault of the app itself, because this is the only way AirPods report the charge.

It's worth noting that the battery display and earphone location features are only available in the pro version, which will cost you $2.

AirBuds Pop-up

airbuds popup

AirBuds Pop-up Like most other apps, it shows the battery status in the status bar or as a notification. But the notification feature is only available on the premium version of AirBuds. It also has the ability to detect whether the AirPods are in your ears or not. Other features like “read caller name” etc. are only available in the premium version, which costs only $1.5. AirBuds Popup requires notification and location permission to work properly.

Droidpods

droidpods

Droidpods — is a notification-focused app, and all the main features are based on them. Control of Apple AirPods is carried out in the notification area, and it does not need anything else to display all the main information. In addition, Droidpods send you a warning if suddenly the battery level of one of the earbuds drops below 10%.

However, it looks like the developer is not particularly interested in developing his product. The last update of the application was on February 1, 2018. If you do not care whether someone is still working on the application, then we advise you to try Droidpods. In principle, such simple utilities do not need any further development, since everything has already been done. Except for small bugs that are long overdue to be fixed.

Droidpods doesn't have a free version, so you'll have to pay $2.50 for it.

AirPopup

AirPopup will provide you with most of the functions that are usually not available in such applications. But the general list will not be much different: battery life check, listening assistance, notifications, pop-up connections. The application displays both the battery level and the remaining time. Presses can be customized for Play/Pause, Next/Previous, etc.

Notifications look great. There is an option to turn off monitoring to extend the battery life of your AirPods. AirPopup comes with an option to detect the location of your earbuds. That is, if it detects that your earbuds are in your ears, the media will automatically play. You can also choose the main menu color for a little personalization.

This is one of the best options we could find on the Play Store. Like Droidpod, AirPopup does not have a free version. You will have to pay $2 up front to install it on your smartphone.

Podroid (closed)

podroid

Podroid is an app developed by Kenwoo Lee. It has a unique feature - the ability to customize the interface for yourself. Podroid will provide you with the function of stopping playback when you take AirPods out of your ears. However, the developer warns that this will entail high battery consumption. Setting a longer delay can increase the life of the headphones.

Podroid shows the Airpod battery level via notifications and the status bar. Note that Podroid requires notification access permission to function properly. This will allow the app to read all notifications coming to your phone. Podroid claims that it only asks for permission to improve its performance and does not share them with third parties. But for users who are concerned about their privacy, this can be a big minus.

Like Assistant Trigger, Podroid allows you to customize touches to your liking. Double-tapping the gear icon will take you to the settings, where you can customize everything to your liking.
